Valdosta - A trial date has been set for a South Georgia Sheriff who faces federal charges.

Clinch County Sheriff Winston Peterson faces perjury, forced labor and two obstruction of justice charges.

Prosecutors accuse him of trying to interfere with the corruption investigation of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit, lying to the grand jury and forcing an inmate to work at a business managed by his wife.

Jury selection is set to start September 8th.

His case will be tried in the Valdosta Federal Court by Judge Hugh Lawson.
