ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Among the aisles of tennis shoes are crime scene investigators gathering evidence left behind during a violent armed robbery.

Police say around 7:40 Tuesday night, 4 men entered the Shoe Depot on Dawson Road. At least one of them, according to the victim, was armed with a weapon.

Inside at the time was the store owner, 49-year-old Leslie Okashah, who was attacked during the robbery. Police would not say how she was attacked, only that she was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In a twist, just hours before the robbery, APD officers were called out to the Shoe Depot in reference to a separate incident in which the store owner told police she had found where someone had attempted to break in through the rear entrance.

That happened sometime between 8:30 Monday night 1:00 Tuesday afternoon. But nothing was reported stolen.

At this time it is not clear if the two crimes are connected, but they come less than 24-hours apart. And although no detailed description of the suspects have been released, the robbery happened in daylight, near a busy road.

The suspects are described as 4 black men last seen in the 2400 block area of Dawson Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 229-436-TIPS.
