ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It looks like the Albany city commission will give the go ahead to a zoning change for a motocross training facility. Onorio Izzo asked the city to rezone this 42-acre site on East Oakridge Drive for a private motocross training facility for his son and friends. But there's a senior living complex right behind it and some of those residents complained about noise from the facility.
The owner has agreed to have all bikes fitted with a silencer insert, which reduces noise. Central Services Director, Stephen Collier, went to the track for a demonstration and said the silencers reduce noise enough to carry on a conversation at a normal level. He said, "I certainly see it as a win-win situation for everybody. They are doing everything they can to reduce noise out there."
Riders rarely use the facility legally on the weekends, but the owner said sometimes people do trespass on his property and use it without permission. He has gates and no trespassing signs, as well as a security guard to try and stop them.
