THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -  A man who was supposed to be caring for his elderly and disabled relatives is now charged with abusing them.

Curtis Johnson and his mother lived in this now condemned house in Thomasville.   Police say he was also the caretaker for two disabled relatives who lived there.

Investigators say the house was filthy and unsafe and Johnson's mother was malnourished and covered with bedsores.  Thomasville Police Department's Assistant Commander Melven Johnson said, "I've been with the police department going on 30 years and this is the worst case of abuse of the elderly and mentally challenged that I've seen in my 30 years here at the police department."

Police say the 53-year-old Johnson had also spent the victims' money. They believe the abuse had gone on for as long as two years.
