ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A candidate for a state senate seat stresses how crucial education is to our state.

Freddie Powell Sims says in spite of its problems, people in South Georgia shouldn't give up on public education. Sims worked 30 years in education and says we need more accountability in the school systems and better money management.

"Your schools are only as strong as your community and your community is only as strong as your school systems and we connect all of those, we're going to have a better educated population," she said.

Also running for the Senate 12 seat is former state representative John White. The seat's being vacated by Michael Meyer Von Bremen.
