CAIRO, GA (WALB) - A brave Grady County deputy ended a long police chase, when he put himself between a reckless driver and a busy roadway full of pedestrians and drivers.
State troopers and Grady County deputies were trying to stop 22-year-old Higinio Garcia. They say he was running people of the road, and he had an unrestrained baby in his car.
A little after 5 Monday night, Deputy Kelvin Nixon saw Garcia approach a busy intersection. Nixon pulled his car in front of Garcia to cut him off from upcoming traffic. Garcia crashed into the deputy's car at 4th Avenue Southwest and Martin Luther King Boulevard in Cairo.
Deputy Nixon was treated for back injuries but is okay.
Garcia is charged with DUI, aggravated assault, 24-traffic violations and other charges.
