ALBANY, GA (WALB) - He is only known as the Bandana Bandit, but police say this masked armed robber is behind 9 hold ups at Albany businesses in recent weeks.

"Several of the armed robberies he has brandished a red bandana. And then, he has also used a white bandana. And in one of the robberies, he used a black doo-rag," said Albany Police Detective Charlie Roberts.

But along with his trade mark disguise, the suspect has held his victims at gun point and demanded money be placed inside a bag.

The crime spree, which has stretched across Albany, began June 13 at McCollum Cleaners on East Broad . The latest took place July 5 at the Cracker Barrel on Westover Boulevard. It was one of five restaurants investigators say was targeted by the serial armed robber.

Between those dates, other businesses robbed by the Bandana Bandit include:

  • June 14th - Western Sizzlin' on East Oglethorpe Blvd.
  • June 15th - Express Lane Chevron on Lockett Station Rd.
  • June 21st - Hot Dog King on Cordele Rd.
  • June 28th - Hardee's on East Oglethorpe Blvd.
  • July 1st     - Holiday Inn on Dawson Rd.
  • July 3rd     - Dollar General on East Oglethorpe Blvd.
  • July 4th     - Burger King on West Oglethorpe Blvd.

While police have stepped up patrols in hopes of capturing the Bandana Bandit before he strikes again, local business owners remain vigilant of the armed robber who investigators consider to be dangerous.

"All the business owners are very concerned. They are just as concerned as we are because there is a potential all over the city. They have collaborated with us to help us bring this to a resolve," says Parker.

Witnesses describe the suspect as a black man, with a stocky or muscular build, between 5-10 to 6-4 inches tall. Detectives say he is known to walk with a crouch to conceal his actual height.

Anyone with information about this serial armed robber is asked to call CRIME STOPPERS at 436-TIPS. There is a reward offered.
