Valdosta - State Senator Tim Golden is honored for his many achievements.

Golden was presented with the first-ever Thomas B. Murphy Lifetime Achievement Award. Murphy was the longest running speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives. He died in 2007.

Golden says Murphy was a good friend and he's honored to hold the award in his memory.

"I'm honored to get the Tom Murphy award. I served with speaker Murphy 8 years in the Georgia house and it's funny. We had an up and down relationship. Sometimes I was in the dog house. But I'm glad when I left the house to run for senate in 98, we were on great terms.  Getting this award in his name is an honor," Golden says.

Golden was nominated by the congressional district chair.
