New York, N.Y. - Valdosta's J.D. Drew stepped up for Boston when David Ortiz went down with a wrist injury.
Drew has been named the American League player of the month for June.
The former Lowndes High Viking hit .337 with 12 homeruns and his 29 runs batted tied with Chicago's Jermaine Dye for the tops in baseball.
It is the first time J.D. Drew has won player of the month honors.
Drew is batting .299 for the season and has a chance to be selected to the American League All-Star game two weeks at Yankee Stadium.
