ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Lee County boy is enjoying his ninth birthday in a Pittsburgh Children's hospital, recovering very well after receiving a small intestine transplant.

Easton Blanchard is said to be doing very well following 11 hours of surgery. The Lee County boy and his family flew to Pittsburgh Monday, when the transplant organ was found.

His Mother said Easton's room in the pediatric intensive care unit is decorated for two birthdays. Heather Blanchard said "They took him in at 7 O-clock Monday night and he came out at 6 O-clock Tuesday morning. So his transplant birthday is July First. And today he is celebrating his ninth birthday. And this is probably one of the best birthday presents he will ever get."

Doctor's say Easton is doing well, but will have to be at the Pittsburgh Hospital at least four months, and maybe a year.

Friends of the Blanchard's have set up a donation account to help them with the medical expenses at SunTrust Bank, through the Philema Baptist Church, if you would like to give.
