VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Monday was the last day on the job for Valdosta State University President Ronald Zaccari.

Zaccari took office in 2002 and is the seventh president of VSU. He announced his retirement last year.

Zaccari was a key player in establishing a 2020 master plan for VSU which includes developing the campus and improving programs at the university. He hopes to see enrollment reach 16,000 students by 2020.

After retirement, he hopes to continue to contribute to Valdosta. "After some time to get into my art and move some projects forward of course Nancy has some projects for me around the house that I will become engaged in the community and serve on some boards and give back those who have given so much to me," he said.

Zaccari will be replaced by Patrick Schloss, former president of Northern State University in South Dakota. VSU officials expect him to begin work on August 4th.
