Folks want those converter boxes

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Converter boxes for the digital television switch-over next year are becoming harder to find.

In Albany, RadioShack, Circuit City, and Wal-Mart carry the converters. But they're having a difficult time keeping them on store shelves.

The trouble is that rebate coupons to help with the cost expire a short time after they're sent out.   RadioShack at the Albany Mall has a new program where the converters are always in stock.

"If we don't have them on the shelf, we still have them in our warehouse," says RadioShack Manager Martina Barkley.  "So what that does for the customer is they can actually come in bring their coupon in, we'll go ahead and sell them one so they're guaranteed it right then, and we'll ship it to the house in three to five days, and the shipping we pay for."

RadioShack recommends customers purchase an analog pass-thru converter box because you can hook it up now and receive any station.
