Who wants Senate seat?

LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -  The list of potential candidates in a state senate special election continues to grow. Former Superior Court Judge Rusty Simpson will run for the District 13 seat being vacated by Joe Carter. 

Republican State Representative Ed Rynders, who faces no opposition in his race, is talking to supporters about a possible switch to the Senate. 

Ryders said he still needs to talk it over with his family, and they're on vacation.  

"There's the belief that in the Senate you get the opportunity certainly to be involved in more of the process because there's simply fewer members of the Senate. It gives you an opportunity to make a greater regional approach and work with different leaders throughout southwest Georgia," said Rynders.

Lee County Commissioner Wally Roberts, who has supported Rynders in the past, says he's considering the Senate seat as well as Rynders' seat if Rynders runs for Senate. 

Sylvester Mayor Bill Yearta has also been mentioned as a candidate, but we could not reach hom for comment.
