ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Water, Gas, and Light will expand services into Lee County if they approve a intergovernmental agreement that would bring telecommunication services to Lee County.

Thursday WG&L's Board approved the agreement that would stretch fiber optic lines 3,100 feet along Palmyra Road to Ledo Road. Dougherty businesses with branch offices in Lee County have been requesting the telecommunication service to keep their businesses up to speeds with everyone else.

"A lot of business owners here have branches in Lee County and to extend their networks right now they don't have any way of getting there so we have the opportunity for the existing plants to go into Lee County with the permission of Lee County to be able to do this so we can make those connections up," said Ronnie Skates, WG&L Telecommunications Director.

Lee County Commissioners are expected to approve their half of the agreement at their next meeting.
