BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - Deputies spotted 29-year-old Shawn Smith driving on Highway 253 near Brinson around 3:30 Wednesday morning.

Smith tried to run when he saw deputies who were in the area keeping.   Corporal Michael Logue said they've been "Spending a lot of extra time patrolling the Brinson area and farming areas in Decatur County particularly farms with irrigation pivots and farms that have chemicals and fuel out. Trying to spend a little extra time patrolling these areas."

Deputies originally pulled Smith over because the back end of his Lincoln was sagging. Inside the trunk, they found a load of copper wire and plumbing stolen from public urinal fixtures. They also found cans of fuel they suspect to be stolen.
