ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The Colquitt County diving program is always among the best in the state, and has a nice habit of sending its divers off to some of the top college programs.Ryan Helms will dive at the University of Tennessee this year, while Anna Aguero heads to Auburn.
Hannah Moore was a freshman diver last year for Georgia, even taking home SEC Female Diver of the Week honors in early December.
Owen Blank is joining Moore in Athens this year, and says it'll be great to be a part of a strong Division I program.
"It's going to be great," says Blank. "There's so many advantages to being a college athlete. It's just cool to be a part of something that special. No everyone gets to do that. It's an honor. It's going to be really fun."
The United States Olympic team held its diving trials this weekend in Indianapolis, and Tony Dumais locked down a spot on the team by winning the event.
Chris Colwill just graduated from the University of Georgia this past year, and placed second at the trials.
That will likely get him an invite to the Olympics in August.
Blank says it'll be an honor following in an Olympians footsteps at Georgia.
"It's very cool," says Blank. "Not everybody gets to say that. It's a privilege to be on the team with him. We look forward to a good season, it should be great."
Blank will get started in Athens the second week of August.
