Albany -- Skaters from Southwest Georgia and North Florida were in Albany Saturday to showcase their skills on wheels.

This is the third skate competition held at the Albany Skate Park. Skaters did tricks on ramps and rails to compete for bragging rights.

But this event is not just about the competition. Skateboarding is a hobby that gets kids outdoors and gives them something to focus on which helps some of them to stay out of trouble.

"It's just a creative outlet where its all about them. They can just be themselves and hang out with their friends. It's not some coach telling them what to do; you just go out and have a good time.

Every one of these kids are out here because they want to be here. It's not because their mom or dad are telling them they have to go to practice. It's not like that at all,"  said event coordinator, Bret Bamford.

Saturday's showcase is held in conjunction with the National Go Skateboard Day.
