Power restored to Dawson

June 19, 2008
By David Fuller

Dawson - Repairs were completed and power was restored to all Dawson residents Thursday afternoon. When the electricity went off about 8:00AM, more than 1,300 Georgia Power customers were left in the dark.

Repair crews had the lights back on for most folks by noon, but about 500 customers were powerless until about 2:00PM.

Among the last to get electricity was the Dawson Public Safety office, which operated off a generator for most of the day.

"I operated without lights and without power," said Dawson Business Owner Bobby Kendrick. "The beer from last night was still cold. I was hoping they'd get the lights back on real soon due to the fact that the ice had started to melt. But a couple of minutes ago, they cut them back on."

A squirrel is blamed for the outage at Georgia Power's 12th Avenue and Lemon Street substation.
