Albany Mayor reacts to shooting

June 17, 2008

Albany - Mayor Willie Adams says he was shocked to hear an APD officer had been shot. Adams says the shooting appears to be the act of a desperate man who didn't want to be locked up, but he believes the suspect will be caught soon and swiftly punished.

"Our people are going to catch him," said Adams.  "We got his bicycle and we hope to soon be in possession of that part of his anatomy that rode on the bicycle. I don't think there's any question that he'll be captured. What I'd like to see is swift conviction."

Chief James Younger told the Mayor and City Commission that Officer Tim Harvey was wearing a bullet proof vest, but the bullet entered below that vest.
