Baconton murder shocks community

Baconton--The quiet community of Baconton was rocked by a horrifying crime.

Investigators say  the woman was beaten to death by a jealous ex-boyfriend.

He also brutally attacked the woman's 13-year-old daughter and then tried to kill himself.

At dawn Friday morning, the Mitchell Count Sheriff's office responded to the Shady Grove Mobile Home park on U.S. 19 in Baconton and found a grim scene.

"Look like what we got is a home invasion, with three victims and we got a suspect that's in custody," said Sheriff W.E. Bozeman, Mitchell County Sheriff's Office.

43-Year-old Linda Paschal, and her 13-year-old daughter Jessica were staying with Daniel Purvis.

They had all been viciously attacked. Investigators say 39-year-old Terry Bryant went to the mobile home Park in a jealous rage looking for Paschal. They say he kicked in the door and beat all three victims with tools.

Linda Paschal died in the yard.

Purvis suffered numerous cuts on the head and face. Jessica underwent brain surgery at Archbold hospital in Thomasville on Friday afternoon, but the hospital refused to tell us her condition.

Bryant was released from jail just yesterday after he pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing for bursting into this same mobile home before.

"They've been charges on this person before he plead guilty to them, the judge had sentenced him to stay away, and apparently he had more than he could handle," said Bozeman.

Neighbors said Paschal often talked about how violent Bryant was and how she feared for her safety.

"They just need to give him the electric chair because that's wrong, how you going to take somebody else's life?" said Connie Ruise, Neighbor.

Now, the young girl has to grow up with out her mother as officials try to locate her father who they believe lives out of state.

"I just want to tell her my heart goes out to her, and Jessica if you're listening, if you're hearing me I love you and I'm going to be praying for you baby," said Ruise.

As of Friday afternoon, investigators said 13-year-old Jessica Paschal is in intensive care.

The suspect, Terry Bryant, slit his own throat after the attacks.

Charges against him include murder, aggravated assault, and stalking.
