Albany-- An Albany state representative is raising money for her campaign to move up to the state senate.
Democrat Freddie Powell-Sims hosted a fundraiser Tuesday afternoon. She said giving up her seat in the House was a difficult decision but after serving four years there, the Senate seemed like the right place to fight for South Georgia issues.
"We are really looking at education, all of the state of Georgia. There are so many variables that we need to address, economic development, and of course education and economic development, transportation, all of those entities are tied in," said Powell-Sims.
Sims will take on John White in the July 15th primary. Senator Michael Meyer Von Bremen is giving up the District 12 Senate seat to run for the State Court of Appeals.
