VPD works to lower accidents

June 10, 2008

Valdosta - Valdosta Police hope some simple safety reminders can help save lives.

Tuesday, officers set up at Wal-mart to show shoppers the importance of wearing a seatbelt, installing car seats properly and moving over to avoid hitting emergency vehicles stopped on the side of the road.

Police say educating the public has helped lower traffic fatalities over the last two years.

"We have zero this year, one last year. We brought our accident level down to what it was in 1993 so what we are doing is working," says Michael Anderson with the VPD.

Police have two more educational events this month.

They'll be back at Walmart on Norman Drive Friday talking about DUI.

They'll go to VSU later this month to educate students on celebrating the summer safely.
