Albany -- Hundreds of South Georgia children were hoping to catch the big one Saturday morning during the Buddy Fishing Tournament. Children ages 4 to 15 along with their parents were welcomed to cast their lines at the Marine Corps Logistics Base.

Staff at the base fill the pond with catfish for the fishing tournament every year to encourage children to enjoy the outdoors with their family.

"You have to press and hold the button. You have to bait the fish. You have to get a good cast, and you have to lure it in," said 8-year-old Alexandra Chaffee.

"We've been feeding these fish for six months. So they are fat, lazy and complacent," said Natural Resource Manager, Eddie Parramore.

"You hear a lot on the news media about children spending to much time in front of the computer and stuff. So this gets them outside," said Conservation Law Enforcement Officer, Al Benger.

This is the 20th year the Marine Corp Logistics Base has held this fishing tournament.
