Tallahassee -- Leesburg native Buster Posey was drafted 5th overall by the San Francisco Giants in Thursday's Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft.
The junior catcher is batting .468 with 24 home runs and 86 RBI for Florida State this year.
Posey is a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award and the Golden Spikes Award, and was named Collegiate Baseball player of the year.
The Seminoles host Wichita State Friday at 2pm in the Super Regionals.
Shortstop Timothy Beckham of Griffin, Georgia, was selected with the top pick by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
