Volunteers prune Trees of Courage

Albany -- Those of you who drive down Westover Boulevard may find the ride a little more pleasing to the eyes.

About 14 volunteers got up early Saturday morning to prune the "Trees of Courage". They spent about two hours trimming stray branches off Crepe Myrtles, Magnolias, Oaks, and Ball Cypress trees.

These trees were planted two years ago to commemorate the lives lost in Iraq.

"At the time that we planted them, we had lost 660 military lives over in the Iraq conflict. And we planted this as a living memorial of the people who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom," said Executive Director of Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful, Judy Bowles.

Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful calls on volunteers to prune these trees every six months.
