Albany --  A candidate hoping to represent South Georgia in the state senate officially opened his campaign headquarters in Albany.

John White is running for the Senate District 12 seat and opened a campaign office on West Oglethorpe.

White says he'll work to improve the housing conditions in Southwest Georgia, if elected. He also wants to improve education and bring industry to the area.

"We have the kind of workers that are needed and employers that are needed, both professionally and line workers for the area.

That is number one. We must have industry. If people don't have jobs they get into trouble. And when people have jobs, there are fewer crimes committed," said White.

State Representative Freddie Powell Sims is running against John White for the Senate District 12 seat.
