Albany -- The Dougherty County School system is again offering free breakfast and lunch this summer for school age children.

Kids 6 to 18 can now get free meals Monday through Friday at Merry Acres Middle, Jackson Heights Elementary, Lamar Reese Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, and all four high schools.

School System Business Director Robert Lloyd said "sure it's needed. The price of gas. Now we have articles in the news where so called middle class families are going to food banks to get food. So everybody is struggling."

The free meals program for students is paid for by federal government funding, and is scheduled to continue through the end of June.
