May 23, 2008

Phoenix, Az. -  The Darton College golf team had whittled a 19 shot deficit into just six heading into Friday's final round of the National Junior College Athletic Association golf tournament.

That means Tyler ends Darton's three-year reign as NJCAA champions.

Darton shot 293 and finished in second place at 1178.

The Cavaliers were led by Evan Hanna's 68.

Hanna played the final 36 holes at five-under par to contend for all-American honors.

Another Darton freshman Jin Chung shot 73.

However sophomores Chesley Gunn and Coleman Calhoun both shot 76 and Matt Smith, who was Darton's leading scorer heading into the final round, shot a 77 to finish at seven-over par for the tournament.
