Georgia ports doing well

May 23, 2008

Bainbridge-- The Georgia Ports Authority is on its way to recording its most successful year ever.

Bainbridge has one of only four ports in Georgia.  The others are in Savannah, Brunswick, and Columbus. Since July, the ports handled 21.4 million tons of cargo.  That's almost a 21% increase.

Because of tri-state water issues, the port in Bainbridge no longer takes in barges.  But they say they've still seen growth moving mostly agricultural products by truck and railroads.
