Albany -- Department of Homeland Security instructors are training Albany first responders how to deal with weapons of mass destruction.
Wearing Hazmat suits, 18 Albany Firefighters and public Health workers are training in terrorism defense.
Emergency responders suited up and tested materials Wednesday to determine if they were hazardous. They were also taught simple ways to mitigate danger from problems like leaking chemical drums.
Three Homeland Security instructors from Texas are in Albany teaching the three day course. EMA Deputy Director Jim Vaught said "We're always training. The more times you train during times of quiet, the better you are during times of emergency."
The emergency responders will be nationally certified if they pass the training.
