Valdosta - Valdosta High coach Rick Tomberlin pleased with the work his Cats got accomplished during spring drills that ended last week.

Tomberlin and his staff have a tough offseason after losing 16 starters from a team that was second in region 1-AAAAA.

Coach Tomberlin is excited about the players coming into his program.

The Cats B-team was undefeated last year, the ninth grade team went 6-1 and the eighth grade won the league championship.

Coach Tomberlin says these young players still need work on the practice field and experience to play in  a region this year that will have two state champions this fall..

Rick Tomberlin said "We have got a long way to go in terms of they type of athleticism and experience we need to be a championship team in this region. Can we get there? I think so. I am positive about it. We have got a long way to go to get to that point."

Valdosta High is scheduled to open the 2008 season at home against Jenkins High of Savannah.
