Dawson -- The Department of Justice made another stop in Dawson Tuesday to inspect the progress at the Terrell County Jail.
Federal authorities have kept an eye on jail conditions in Terrell County for years. Justice Department representatives toured the current facility and inspected progress on the new jail.
The county got a letter several weeks ago stating that federal inspectors would be there Tuesday to check the progress of changes that were ordered in December.
"They want to take a look at the new facility that is in the midst of construction, take a look at the plans, any changes that have been made to the current policies and procedures at the jail. Look at the medical staffing issues to see how the medical contract is coming," said Terrell County Attorney Ed Collier.
Construction on the new Terrell County Jail is expected to be complete in November.
