Albany -- The murder trial of 23-year-old Tavarius West is set to begin Monday at the Dougherty County Courthouse. West is accused of killing 21-year-old Demetrius Vicks in east Albany last April.
Tensions have been high in the months following the shooting death of Demetrius Vicks. The suspected triggerman, Tavarius West, has entered a not-guilty plea in the case which will begin nearly 13-months after he was arrested for murder.
West turned himself in to authorities just days murder warrants were issued against him. The victim was shot along with his brother during a fight in which witnesses say the Vicks' brothers were trying to protect their niece and sister.
Travis Vicks survived after being shot in the leg, but was later named a suspect himself in a shooting at a nightclub on New Year's Day. The Vicks' residence was then shot up in retaliation prompting police to confiscate guns from two families.
West has remained in the Dougherty County Jail awaiting trial since his arrest. We'll continue to follow the developments of this trial and will have more information following its outcome.
