Lowndes County - Lowndes County could be home to the state's newest horse facility.

Officials with the Department of Agriculture will travel to Valdosta Monday to look at Blackburn Park in Lake Park.

The county already plans to improve the park and add a horse facility.

The state could provide the money to make the park one of Georgia's top equine facilities.

"Lowndes County is in a great position. We are halfway between Atlanta and Orlando and we are right off Interstate 75. WE think we'll pull a lot of horse owners in from North Florida, Alabama and across the state," says Paige Dukes with the Lowndes County Commission Office.

State and local officials will meet Monday at 12:00 PM at the James H Rainwater Conference Center.

The event is open to the public.
