Tallahassee, Fl. - Not only does Leesburg's Buster Posey have a chance to be the first overall pick in next month's major league baseball draft, he is also in the running for many of college baseball's top awards.
The Florida State catcher is a semfinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Johnny Bench Award.
The Johnny Bench Award is presented to the top catcher in college baseball.
Buster Posey finished second for that award last year when he was the first sophomore to become a finalist.
The Dick Howser Trophy, named after the late Florida State coach and Kansas City Royals manager, is considered as one of the most prestigious in college baseball.
The awards criteria not only includes a player's performance but also leadership, character and courage.
Buster Posey leads the nation in five categories incluidng his .469 batting average.
The Dick Howser Trophy will be announced just before the College World Series and the Johnny Bench Award will be presented in late June.
