Semi-crash on I-75, Bank robbery, Possible murder arrest

May 15, 2008

News events in Valdosta and Albany--

A major accident involving three tractor trailer trucks happened just before 4:00AM at Exit 22 on Interstate 75 South just north of Valdosta.

No injuries have been reported in this accident, but one of the semis, possibly a Fed-Ex truck, caught fire. DOT officials say two lanes of I-75 South are currently opened and the wreckage should be cleared by 11 a.m.  Anyone wanting to avoid this route can take Old Highway 41 as a detour.

For updated information and alternate routes, you can contact the DOT traffic information line at 511.

Also, we have a report of a bank robbery about 9:30 at the Bank of Valdosta on Woodrow Wilson Drive. Police tell us that the robber is described as six-feet tall, stocky, possibly Hispanic. His face was covered, and he was armed with a firearm. He ran away from the bank with cash. K-9 units assisting in the search.

Any one with information is asked to call the Valdosta Police Department.

In Albany, we hear that police have made an arrest in a here-to-fore unsolved murder. APD has called a news conference for 10:30. We'll have more details later.
