Albany -- Emergency workers are getting ready in case storms develop here. They held a teleconference with the National Weather Service Friday afternoon.  And if there is bad weather, Dougherty County now has a new tool to warn and protect you.

The Code Red Emergency Notification System is up and running.  Many of you have registered to receive alerts, and the system will be set off Sunday if conditions are right.

"Our code red system is up and running.  We're getting great response from the community people are signing up for the program.  We'd like more businesses to do that because businesses are in the same path as individual private homes are in," said Dougherty County Deputy EMA Director Jim Vaught.

Listed phone numbers are automatically in the Code Red system.  Lowndes County has a Code Red System as well.

To sign up for Dougherty County's Code Red alerts:  Go to http://www.albany.ga.us/ and Click on "Code Red."
