Leesburg - The state high school baseball playoffs start Friday for the Georgia High School Association and the Georgia Independent School Association.
The region 1-AAAA champion Lee County Trojans open with a familiar team in Evans.
Lee County beat Evans in the semifinals three years ago and the Knights beat Lee County in the first round two years ago.
Head coach Rob Williams knows this will be a tough first round series and the little things will determine who moves on.
Rob Williams said "We feel comfortable if we have to lay down a sacrifice bunt. A ground ball to the right side if we have runner on so we can get him over and into scoring position. We feel good about ourselves."
Lee County plays Evans in a doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m. Friday in Leesburg. A third game if needed is 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
The GISA baseball playoffs are usually ending during this week but this year they are just beginning.
The Deerfield-Windsor Knights winners of the 3-AAA title host Augusta Prep in the first round.
The Knights were 16-1 in the reuglar season but coach Rod Murray telling his region champs that everyone is 0-0 with the playoffs.
Offense is a big reason why the Knights won 16 of 17 in the reuglars season and their coach hopes the hot hitting continues in the postseason.
Rod Murray said "We are hitting the ball in different situations with two strikes 3-1 count. We have been riding that wave all year long. We are pleased with how we have hit the baseball. We are going to try to keep doing the same thing."
Deerfield-Windsor hosts Augusta Prep Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and game two is Saturday at noon. A third game if needed will follow game two on Saturday.
