Tifton -- ABAC men's basketball coach Todd Sheppard stepped down from his post with the Stallions Tuesday, after five years at the school.
Sheppard is leaving coaching to take a job in medical device sales.
The coach spent 18-years on the sidelines, compiling a 93-64 record with ABAC, and watched the program grow from an afterthought to a nationally ranked power.
The Stallions were ranked as high as 9th in the nation in the 2006-2007 season, and the 27 wins represent a school record.
"I feel like the program is in good shape," says Sheppard. "I feel like there will be a strong pool of applicants for the job. ABAC is a special place. It's a very good place to come to work every day."
There is currently no timetable on when a new coach will be hired.
Twenty-eight players Sheppard coached at ABAC have gone on to sign basketball scholarships with four-year schools.
