Thomasville--  As part of teacher appreciation week, the county school system surprised Joy West with this year's teacher of the year award.

West teaches math, science, and social studies to third graders at Cross Creek Elementary.    "I do the same thing that every other teacher at Cross Creek does. We teach teach teach. We love our children, we treat them just like our own children at home. And we go out there and do what needs to be done. These children are special and they need us just like we need them," said West.

This is the third year in a row a teacher from Cross Creek has won the teacher of the year award. West will now compete for state teacher of the year honors.
