Albany -- Lots of pomp and circumstance Saturday morning as nearly 400 students graduated from Albany State University.

Family and friends filled the Civic Center Saturday morning as 346 students walked across the stage to receive their degrees.

Of the graduates 14 received the Education Specialist Degree , the highest degree A.S.U. presents.

But regardless of the type of degree, family and friends all recognize the hard work it takes to graduate from college, especially with some students facing many personal adversities.

"She has an ill mother, and she basically had to fight and do it on her own. So she accomplished a lot," said Godmother of a graduate, Beth Justice.

"It takes a lot of sacrifice and a lot of hard work to get to this point. Always studying. Times you want to hang out, you can't because you have to spend all your time studying," said cousin of a graduate, James Lawson.

Dan Pallotta, a well-known charity fundraiser and founder of Pallotta TeamWorks, was the key note speaker at the commencement ceremony.
