Albany -- The field portion of the GHSA girls track and field state championships took place at Hugh Mills Stadium Friday, with high school athletes in all classifications looking to run, jump, or vault their way to a state title.
Early County sophomore Antquinita Reed competed in the Class AA long jump competition.
Reed was the defending champion in the event, after leaping 17' 8" to win the title as a freshman.
She didn't travel as far this year, but Reed's jump of 17' 5 1/2" was good enough to win the state title by half an inch.
It's the second championship for Reed, and the Lady Bobcat track star says she felt some pressure as the defending champ.
"It's quite amazing, to be in 10th grade and win it," says Reed. "Just coming out here and jumping with all these seniors. Last year I did better, but I did alright to win it."
Tift County's Shabreka Carter wins the AAAAA discus with a throw 126 feet.
Cook High's Kendra Carter wins the AA long jump.
Dooly County's Cariesha Glover wins two events in Class A.
Glover takes state titles in the high jump and in the triple jump.
