Qualifying closes in Lowndes County

Lowndes County - Qualifying is over and more than three dozen people have paid the fee to run for office in Lowndes County.

Thirteen offices are up for election from Chief Magistrate Judge to County Commission Chairman.

Many candidates are veterans, others qualifying for the first time.

All are now ready to hit the campaign trail. One of the biggest races in to succeed Sheriff Ashley Paulk, who is retiring.

"I was really looking forward to come on in and qualify and getting ready for the big race. I feel like I'm well qualified for the position and I'm just looking forward to it," says Sheriff Candidate Chris Prine.

"I'm embarking on something I've never done before. This whole election thing is new to me but not the feel of law enforcement," adds fellow candidate Roy Hart after qualifying for sheriff.

Also up for election in Lowndes County, the Chief Magistrate Judge and the County Commission Chairman.
