Albany--Girls Incorporated has inspired young women in Albany since 1864.

On Thursday, the group honored girls who continue that long tradition of success.

Girls Inc. held its annual awards night to honor girls who showed exceptional respect for their peers and staff.

They also handed out awards for academic achievement, community involvement, and sports.

This year the organization increased the graduation rate, and reduced the pregnancy rate of girls in area centers.

"We work really hard with the young ladies, and giving them those skills they need to be strong smart and bold and we're really proud of them and we just want everyone to know it's always fun to celebrate being a girl."LaKisha Bryant Girls Inc. Executive Director]

Jessica Dunkin and Iman Wilson were named girls of the year from the two centers in Albany.

The goal of Girls Inc. is to help girls understand, value, and assert their rights.
