Albany -- Dougherty County Police warn you to guard against theft from your mailbox. Thieves want to get their hands on your economic stimulus check.

D-C-P got two complaints Tuesday of mail being stolen or tampered with.

Investigators say thieves know the government checks will be delivered soon, and their Officers will watch out for suspicious people around home mailboxes. Captain Jimmy Sexton said  "We also need the public's help. If they observe any suspicious activity around their mailbox, or their neighbor's mailbox, to let us know."

Police say you might want to invest in a locking mailbox. They also suggest you mail letters with personal information or checks at the post office or a locking box to safeguard them from identity thieves.
