Pitch fork attack lands man in jail

April 30, 2008

Albany --It's not a weapon you see used every day. Police say an Albany man attacked his neighbor with a pitchfork.

52-year old Ashley "Chip" Evans is charged with aggravated assault. Evans lives in room 145 at the Dollar Inn on North Slappey.

Police say about nine Tuesday  night he threw a beer bottle against the door to room 147 where 33-year old Thornton Smith lives. When Smith opened his door, he says Evans attacked him with a pitchfork. Smith took the pitchfork away from Evans and hit him in the face.

Evans said he was mad because Smith's family called him a pedophile.
