Albany --- The community helped raise $44,000 through the King Day Celebration in January. Wednesday Organizers presented that money to the Albany Civil Rights Museum.

Steven Belk of Turner Job Corps presented two, $22,000 checks to Museum Executive Director Danielle Blackwell. One check will help pay operational costs at the Museum.

The other will be donated to the Endowment Fund to help pay for the construction of the new Civil Rights Institute under construction next door. Blackwell said "It's going to chronicle the history of the movement, and we've got to prepare. We want the scholars, the educators, and students from across the region to come and enjoy their history."

The Civil Rights Institute is scheduled to open in October.
