Cairo basketball celebrates six scholarship players

Cairo - Cairo High is known for its football program but the Syrupmaker basketball programs are also loaded with great players.

Evident Tuesday by three Syrupmakers signing college scholarships.

Albany State coach Chris Cameron has a point guard.

Cairo guard Stephen Francis signed to play for the Rams.

Francis averaged 11 points and 10 assists a game.

Terrence Bowman, an all-region performer, is heading to Florida to play at Okaloosa-Walton Community College.

Jacolby Griffin has signed to play at Spring Hill College.

Griffin averaged 14 points and eight rebounds a game.

The Rams weren't the only local school recruiting Cairo.

Darton coach Laura Blackwell signing two players from the region champion Syrupmaids squad.

Region 1-AAA player of the year Ashley Holt and Brittany Thornton signing to play for the Lady Cavaliers.

Holt averged 15 points a game for her career and Thornton's numbers were 11 points and seven rebounds.

Cairo teammate Shmrya Hopkins is heading to play at Wesleyan University in Macon.

Hopkins was a two year starter at center for the Syrupmaids.
