Albany -- Albany City Commissioners want to bring more events to the Civic Center by giving groups a break on new, higher rental fees.

Civic Center management raised rates last year. The higher costs have scared some groups away.

Now city commissioners want to provide grants to help event organizers afford the extra costs. They hope it will bring more events and more visitors to town.

"We try very hard at the Civic Center Complex and the includes the Municipal Auditorium to bring talents into town. And once we get them here, hopefully we can get them to spend dollars in our restaurants, gas stations, and our hotels as well," said Director, John Mazzola.

City Commissioners are considering allocating $100,000 dollars in next year's budget for this grant program.
