Albany - Deerfield-Windsor distance runner Kelly Conway began her bid for three GISA track titles by winning the AAA girls 1600 meter run for a third consecutive year.
Conway, whose first win in this event came as an eighth grader, took the lead on the first turn and pulled away.
She set a personal best and broke her school record with a time of 5:19.
Kelly Conway said "I wanted to get sub 5:20 which is what I was able to do. I was just pushing as hard as I could."
Conway, who won the 800 and 3200 meter runs last year, will defend those titles this weekend.
She runs the 800 meters on Friday afternoon and the 3200 is Saturday during the finals of the track events.
The GISA field events start Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Hugh Mills Stadium.
